Questions To Ask Your Elizabethtown Dentist

Questions To Ask Your Elizabethtown Dentist Sometimes we research our mechanic or hairdresser more thoroughly than our Elizabethtown dental professional. Shouldn’t your dental care be far more important than the condition of your car or the style of your hair? At Elizabethtown Dental Associates, we love to answer questions about your teeth. You should be asking your dentist any question you have about the care and status of your teeth.

For instance, you may have questions about the school of dentistry and dental specialties studied. Though important, dentistry school is not the only place to gain dental experience, however. Dr. Ed White has been performing complex dental procedures since 1984.

You should also be asking about the dentistry specialties your Elizabethtown dentist offers such as tooth restoration, clear braces and lumineers. These services may not be important to you now, but it is a good idea to have an understanding of your options, and to know what your dentist has to offer.

If you are contemplating smile restoration, tooth implants, or tooth whitening, evaluate cosmetic dentistry options with your Elizabethtown area dentist. Look at before and after pictures, and ask your dentist what procedures may be right for you.

General dentists offer a variety of dental services such as tooth extractions and tooth fillings, and can treat every member of the family. At Elizabethtown Dental Associates, we specialize in family and cosmetic dentistry, porcelain veneers and dental implants.

You have many choices for your Elizabethtown family dentistry. We welcome questions about all aspects of our Elizabethtown Dental Associates practice. Visit us at 100 Continental Dr in Elizabethtown and talk to a member of our caring and professional team.

Pennsylvania Dentists And Your Mouth Sores

Leola Dentists And Your Mouth Sores As your local Pennsylvania dentist, one of my roles is to help you take care of your mouth. Sometimes mouth sores can be an issue, and while dentists often defer to an oral surgeon for extreme cases, we can help you make an assessment.

If you live in Pennsylvania and have a mouth sore that lasts more than a week or two; come and see me at my family dentistry practice. Mouth sores can be an indicator of disease, and an early assessment is the best bet. A better understanding of your mouth sores can lead quickly to comfort and a resolution. If necessary, treatment and pain relief can be offered.

There are two common types of mouth sores that are common; canker sores and cold sores.

Canker sores are small ulcer-like sores with a white or gray base and a red border. They are found on the inside of the mouth and while they are not contagious, they can be painful. Typically a canker sore heals in a week or two. Antimicrobal mouth-rinses, over-the-counter topical anesthetics, and avoiding spicy and acidic foods may offer you temporary relief while your sore is healing.

The cause of a canker sores is not certain. Possible explanations range from a cut on the inside the mouth, and reactions to extreme temperatures or acids from food or drink, to fatigue, stress, and allergies. Some studies point to bacteria or viruses, or combinations of all these factors.

Cold sores, also called fever blisters or Herpes Simplex, are groups of fluid-filled blisters that often appear around the lips, sometimes appearing under the nose or around the chin. Cold sores are contagious and painful, but usually heal in about a week. Some over-the-counter anesthetics may provide relief. There are some antiviral drugs on the market that have shown promise in reducing outbreaks, but there is currently no known cure. The initial infection, known as primary herpes, often occurs before adulthood. Once the virus infects you, it may stay in your body and remain inactive or cause occasional cold sore outbreaks. Outbreaks may be triggered by a fever, sunburn, skin abrasions, stress, or exposure to extremes in temperature.

As your Pennsylvania family dentist, I can’t do much to stop canker sores or cold sores in your mouth. I can discuss the health of your mouth, and examine any causes that make your mouth sore. In some cases a change in the way you care for your mouth can reduce the chances of getting mouth sores. If you are in Pennsylvania, and would like to speak with a cosmetic dental professional about mouth sores, area give us a call at Elizabethtown Dental Associates.

Our number is 717-367-1336.

When Style And Oral Health Collide in Elizabethtown

When Style And Oral Health Collide in Elizabethtown

Oral piercing is a popular form of body-art in Elizabethtown, but just because it’s popular doesn’t mean it’s safe. I’m Dr. Ed White, a dentist serving Elizabethtown and surrounding areas. When my patients ask me about the safety of oral piercings, I make sure they understand the possible consequences.

First, Elizabethtown residents should know that infection is always a major concern with any piercing, but because the mouth is the perfect environment for breeding bacteria, oral piercings are especially problematic. Chewing, swallowing, and speaking can also be impaired by an oral piercing.

Oral piercings can lead to an increase in saliva flow and, possibly, excessive drooling, something my Elizabethtown cosmetic dental patients generally want to avoid. (I don’t know anyone in Elizabethtown who thinks drooling is attractive.) Chipped or cracked teeth, damage to dental fillings, and metal sensitivity are other possible results.

Another serious risk associated with piercings that should concern Elizabethtown, Lancaster, and Hershey residents is nerve damage. Many people experience temporary numbness after a piercing, but for some, sensations never return. An injured nerve can also affect facial movements as well as your sense of taste.

Do you really want to risk looking like a stroke victim for the rest of your life?

If you’ve read through this and you’re still sure a tongue bar or lip piercing is for you, please consult your Elizabethtown area family dentist so they can help you make the safest decision possible for your dental health. If you are looking for a dentist around Elizabethtown, our caring and professional staff here at Elizabethtown Dental Associates would be happy to schedule an appointment for you. We offer sedation dentistry, dental implants, Invisalign clear braces, and more!

We may even convince you that safe, effective cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, veneers, or bonding would be a smarter and safer way to express your personality and boost your confidence. Give us a call today!

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Elizabethtown

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Elizabethtown

Tooth whitening has really taken off in Elizabethtown. It has become a popular dental procedure and can provide excellent results if done properly.

There are a lot of options when it comes to tooth whitening. You can choose from a selection of over-the-counter options that you can get at your local pharmacy, or can go to a professional to get a complete tooth whitening solution.

It is a good idea to consult with your dentist before a tooth whitening, regardless of whether you choose to use an over-the-counter product. Your dentist will be able to help you understand the results you can expect, and can help recommend a product that will work for you.

There are many variables when it comes to tooth whitening. The color of your teeth at the beginning of your treatment will make a difference for your ending result. Different teeth whitening treatments will each produce a different result. Your Elizabethtown dentist has experience with tooth coloration and the types of treatments available.

In many cases, your Elizabethtown dentist will be able to provide you with a tooth whitening solution that you can take home with you. In some cases, your Elizabethtown cosmetic dentist may recommend a professional treatment that is done at the dentist’s office.

Professional zoom whitening can produce dramatic results in a single treatment, and is often done over a few treatments.

Tooth whitening is less expensive than it was in the earlier days of tooth whitening technology. Today, tooth whitening treatments are very affordable, and don’t take the time they used to.

If you are interested in a tooth whitening consultation in the Elizabethtown area, please call Elizabethtown Dental Associates and make an appointment to see me. I will be happy to give you a check up, assess your tooth color, and recommend tooth whitening treatments that may be right for you.
